People who make it big in their life put in much effort to reach the top. It is not always however that their hardships that went behind this success get noticed. It is only when such people achieve stardom do their stories of hardship get highlighted.

Often these stories have learning for us that patience and hard work always pays and we should never lose the hope, howsoever hard the conditions might be.

The man who is lovingly referred to as “The King of Rock and Roll” Elvis Presley has given some of the most remarkable numbers of his time including ‘Bridge over Troubled Waters’ and ‘That’s all Right’. Not many people know that Elvis Presley was asked to get out from Grand Ole Opry in 1954 by Jimmy Denny.

Jimmy had in fact told him that he should get back to driving trucks. However, Elvis Presley kept his cool and even after his death, he continues to be a popular name.

3. Jim Carrey

Jim Carrey is a popular Hollywood Comedy star who has featured in many popular Hollywood movies including Ace Ventura, The Mask and The Number 23 to name a few. His rise to stardom had many challenges as he had to drop out of school at 15 owing to poverty.

Life was tough for Jim Carrey and owing to poverty his family had to even live in a van as they could not afford paying rent. His father was an unemployed musician and Jim worked in comedy clubs in Toronto to support his family.

The hard work eventually paid and he was able to make a name for himself in Hollywood.

2. Steven Spielberg

The prolific filmmaker, Steven Spielberg has come up with Academy Award winning movies like ‘Schindler List’ and ‘Saving Private Ryan’. However in the initial stages of career he was rejected by University of South California School of Theatre, Film and Television.

Steven did not give up and became a director for Universal Studios owing to his dedication for the profession. Eventually University of South California also awarded him an honorary degree in 1994 for his contribution to cinema.

Bill Gates needs no introduction. The 59 year old owner of Microsoft could not make any money in initial stages of his career. Traf-O-Data, a devise which could read traffic tapes failed initially. He along with his partner Paul Allen tried to sell it but did not succeed.

Bill has belief in his knowledge and did not give up. He ventured into computer software and came up with Microsoft, one of the most successful business model ever.
